Movie Story
“The War with Grandpa” centers around young Peter (Oakes Fegley), who is not pleased when his recently widowed grandfather, Ed (Robert De Niro), moves into his home and takes over his beloved bedroom. Unwilling to give up his room without a fight, Peter decides to declare war on his grandpa in an effort to reclaim his territory.
The film follows a series of increasingly elaborate pranks and counterattacks as Peter and Ed engage in a playful but escalating battle. As the stakes rise, the pranks become more outrageous, involving everything from hidden snakes to sabotaged alarm clocks. Despite the comedic tone, the film also touches on the themes of family, understanding, and the importance of communication across generations.
As the conflict intensifies, both Peter and Ed begin to realize that their war is hurting those around them, particularly Peter’s parents, Sally (Uma Thurman) and Arthur (Rob Riggle), and his sisters. In the end, the two find common ground and learn that their relationship is more important than any bedroom.
“The War with Grandpa” is a heartwarming family comedy that emphasizes the value of family bonds, even amidst the chaos of a generational prank war.
