Movie Story
Greenland is a tense disaster thriller that follows the harrowing journey of one family as they struggle to survive a cataclysmic event. The story centers on John Garrity (Gerard Butler), a structural engineer, his estranged wife Allison (Morena Baccarin), and their young son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd). As news spreads of a massive comet on a collision course with Earth, the Garrity family receives an unexpected government alert granting them access to a secure military bunker, part of a larger effort to save a select group of people from the impending global catastrophe.

As fragments of the comet begin to rain down on Earth, causing widespread devastation, the Garritys must navigate a collapsing society where panic, fear, and chaos reign. Separated during their desperate attempt to reach the safety of the bunkers, John, Allison, and Nathan face numerous obstacles, including violent mobs, looters, and the threat of the comet’s final impact.

The film is a gripping portrayal of survival and the human spirit in the face of unimaginable disaster. It explores the lengths to which people will go to protect their loved ones, as well as the moral dilemmas that arise when survival is at stake. The Garritys’ journey is filled with suspense and emotion, as they confront not only the external dangers of a dying world but also their own internal struggles and the fragility of their family bonds.

Special Effects

The use of practical effects and CGI effectively conveys the scale and intensity of the disaster, immersing the audience in the chaos and destruction that the characters face.

It grossed over $52 million worldwide, and its success was bolstered by strong digital and on-demand sales, making it one of the more successful films during a period when many theaters were closed or operating at limited capacity.
