Movie Story
The Wrong Missy is a slapstick comedy centered around Tim Morris (David Spade), a straight-laced, middle-aged businessman who, after a disastrous blind date with an eccentric woman named Missy (Lauren Lapkus), thinks he’s found a new romantic interest in another woman he meets at the airport. This woman, also named Melissa (Molly Sims), seems like the perfect match—beautiful, intelligent, and charming.

Excited by the possibility of a new relationship, Tim decides to invite the new Missy to his company’s corporate retreat in Hawaii, believing he’s found the woman of his dreams. However, things take a chaotic turn when he mistakenly texts the invite to the “wrong Missy”—the wild and unpredictable Missy from his blind date.

When Missy arrives in Hawaii, Tim is horrified to discover his mistake, but it’s too late to send her back. The rest of the movie follows Tim’s desperate attempts to manage Missy’s outrageous behavior as she turns his work retreat into a series of embarrassing and hilarious mishaps. From public displays of awkward affection to bizarre encounters with his boss (Geoff Pierson), Tim finds himself increasingly entangled in Missy’s chaotic world.

As the weekend progresses, Tim begins to see a different side of Missy and starts to question his initial impressions of her. Despite her eccentricities, Missy proves to be loyal, fun, and unexpectedly insightful, leading Tim to reconsider what he truly wants in a partner.

The film is a blend of romantic comedy and outrageous humor, typical of Happy Madison Productions, offering plenty of laughs and over-the-top situations. The chemistry between David Spade and Lauren Lapkus drives the narrative, with Lapkus stealing the show with her energetic and fearless performance.

Special Effects
The special effects in The Wrong Missy are minimal, focusing more on physical comedy and situational humor than on elaborate visuals. The film’s comedic moments rely heavily on the performances and timing of the actors, particularly in scenes where Missy’s antics cause chaos, such as her interactions with sharks, her unexpected stunts, and her wild behavior at the retreat. The effects serve to enhance these comedic set pieces without overshadowing the performances.

Box Office Performance
As a Netflix original film, The Wrong Missy was released directly on the streaming platform and did not have a traditional box office release. The movie quickly became popular on Netflix, consistently ranking among the top-viewed films on the platform following its release. Its success can be attributed to its broad appeal as a light-hearted comedy and the presence of familiar faces from Happy Madison Productions.

Behind-the-Scenes
The Wrong Missy is produced by Adam Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions, known for creating broad comedies with recurring collaborators. David Spade, who stars as the beleaguered Tim Morris, reunites with Happy Madison for this film, bringing his signature deadpan humor to the role. Lauren Lapkus, who plays the wildly unpredictable Missy, was praised for her committed and uninhibited performance, which was a highlight of the film.

Director Tyler Spindel, who has previously worked with Happy Madison, aimed to capture the spirit of the company’s earlier comedies, blending outrageous scenarios with a surprisingly sweet undercurrent. The film was shot primarily in Hawaii, taking advantage of the tropical setting to create a visually appealing backdrop for the comedic events.

While The Wrong Missy did not receive major awards, it was recognized for its popularity on streaming platforms and became a fan-favorite for viewers seeking a fun, light-hearted comedy.

Final Verdict
The Wrong Missy is a zany, over-the-top comedy that delivers exactly what it promises: plenty of laughs, cringe-worthy moments, and a dose of unexpected heart.
